Shared Inbox, Unified Inbox, Outreach Plus and WhatsApp Business integration extend personalized retail engagement beyond the traditional one-to-one associate model

Tulip has announced an expansion of Tulip Clienteling, introducing new capabilities that help retailers manage customer relationships through both individual associates and store-wide teams. The enhanced platform is designed to extend personalized engagement to retailers serving larger customer bases, allowing team members to continue conversations with access to shared customer context and interaction history.

Traditionally associated with luxury retail and high-touch service, clienteling often relies on dedicated relationships between customers and individual sales associates. However, customers may interact with multiple employees throughout their purchasing journey or seek assistance when their usual associate is unavailable. Tulip’s expanded platform aims to maintain continuity across these interactions, enabling any available team member to deliver more informed and personalized service.

“Retailers build relationships with customers in different ways,” said Ian Rawlins, CEO of Tulip. He explained that the platform now supports dedicated associate relationships, team-based service and hybrid approaches, allowing retailers to select engagement models that suit their operations and customer expectations.

Four Capabilities Support Team-Based Clienteling

The expanded platform brings together four capabilities designed to coordinate customer communications and outreach across teams and channels.

  • Shared Inbox: Provides a common workspace for managing customer conversations and follow-ups, allowing available associates to continue ongoing interactions.

  • Unified Inbox: Consolidates email, SMS and WhatsApp conversations into one experience, bringing customer context and communication history together.

  • Outreach Plus: Supports outreach through both individual associate client books and shared team books, including targeted, automated, triggered and multi-step campaigns.

  • WhatsApp Business integration: Enables two-way messaging and campaigns through WhatsApp alongside SMS and email in supported markets.

Together, these tools are intended to help retailers coordinate engagement across stores and teams while maintaining a consistent view of customer interactions.

AI Helps Personalize Engagement at Scale

Tulip AI supports both individual and team-based clienteling by generating customer summaries, helping associates identify relevant products and assisting with personalized communications.

Combined with Outreach Plus, these capabilities can help retailers extend tailored outreach to larger customer groups. Retailers retain control over which activities are automated, which require associate review and which remain entirely associate-led.

The company said the expanded capabilities were developed and tested through an initiative involving more than 20 Tulip customer innovation partners.

Flexible Models for Different Retail Operations

Tulip’s individual and team-based engagement models operate on the same platform. Retailers can deploy either approach or combine them across brands, regions, stores and customer segments.

“By putting customer insight, AI and coordinated conversations in the hands of the whole team, we’re helping more retailers turn everyday interactions into lasting relationships,” Rawlins said.

The expansion reflects a broader retail focus on maintaining consistent customer experiences as store teams and communication channels evolve. By making customer context accessible across associates, Tulip aims to help retailers preserve relationship continuity, strengthen loyalty and support long-term customer value.
