Approval from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets enables the company to offer regulated crypto-asset services across the European Union

BitPay has received authorization as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation, marking a significant step in the company's European expansion. Granted by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), the authorization enables BitPay to provide regulated digital asset services across the EU.

BitPay B.V., the company's European subsidiary, will use the authorization to expand cryptocurrency payment services for businesses and consumers. The offering includes crypto payment acceptance, stablecoin transactions, and cross-border payment solutions.

Consumers will also gain broader access to regulated digital asset services through BitPay and its partners, including tools to spend and manage cryptocurrencies and, through partner services, buy, sell, and swap digital assets.

MiCA Authorization Supports European Market Expansion

The MiCA framework establishes a common regulatory structure for crypto-asset service providers operating across the European Union. For BitPay, the authorization provides a regulatory foundation to serve merchants, business partners, and consumers across the region.

Thom de Jong, chief compliance officer for Europe at BitPay, said the approval strengthens the company's ability to deliver regulated digital asset services while supporting responsible innovation.

He added that the authorization reinforces BitPay's compliance-focused approach as demand for cryptocurrency payment services grows across European markets.

Strengthening Regulated Crypto Payment Infrastructure

The authorization builds on BitPay's existing international regulatory presence, which includes money transmitter licenses and other approvals in key markets.

The company said this regulatory foundation supports its long-term strategy of helping businesses and consumers adopt cryptocurrency payments with greater confidence. Its services are designed to support digital asset transactions across industries and international markets.

Jonathan Arler, head of Europe at BitPay, described Europe as an important market for the future of payments. With its European operations based in Amsterdam, the company aims to support merchants, partners, and consumers seeking practical ways to accept, transfer, manage, and spend digital assets.

Investment in European Digital Asset Services

Founded in 2011, BitPay has developed cryptocurrency payment solutions for businesses and consumers. The company views its MiCA authorization as an important step in expanding its regulated services as cryptocurrencies and stablecoins become more integrated into commercial payments.

BitPay plans to continue investing in its European operations, strategic partnerships, and payment infrastructure to support adoption across the EU.
